Anyone have a 69 with the long water pump? Does it use the same alternator brackets as the short one? I have the short pump but want to use one of the more efficient aluminum aftermarket pumps. They're only available in the long version. I'm wondering if the only thing I'll need to change is the water pump pulley.
the alternator bracket bolts into the same place... as far as I can remember the only difference is the pulley. Its deeper to line up with the other pulleys. Gotta remember fan clearance too
I ran into the long short deal too! This one has been batted around, and it's my best guess that it probally has to do with ac & w/o ac cars, and I think that the w/ac pulley aligns the belts.
I don't remember whether the problem was with the alternator belt, the p/s belt, or both, but I do remember that the ac pulley corrected the problem. The thing is that it looked cobbled together with the blank "v," so I changed to the short snout pump.
