I was thinking it would be really nice to have something other than just the AM radio to listen to while on longer drives, but I don't really want to put a modern radio into the car. Would one of these FM converters be a period correct addition?
FM Converters have been around a while. The photo you enclosed looks like something from the 1970s when they were quite popular. I'm sure they were available in the 1960s, but they were pretty uncommon as AM radio still ruled in most areas. I had a thread a few weeks ago where Earlybird described having his AM radio converted to AM/FM/MP3. Found out my AM is shot so this appears to be the best option for me. Not sure I would hack up a working AM radio though (probably same boat you are in).

That looks like the identical one I had in my first '68 firebird back in the late 70's! Changing the station by turning a dial was a PITA tho!

To answer your question, yes it is definitly period correct. all my freinds had these in their cars in the mid to late 70's i have one brand new in the box from radio shack im going to install in my bird.
