Does anyone have any pictures of where and how the convertible rear speakers are put in. Mine does not have them. I bought the reproduction boxes but not sure where or how they mount and what size speakers to use Thanks

The speakers are shallow 6x9, the boxes mount with special spacer screws to the trunk floor and rear seat frame brackets. Holes are cut in the well liner for the speaker grilles. The sound is horrid with the top down and you can't see them with the top down. Put the boot on and you will never know they are there.

Those are made in 2003 Blaupunkt Overdrive 5 x 7s. No brackets, that is just the speakers and grilles in the piston covers.
5 1/2" round fit great there too. Just watch the rear depth to be sure you clear the cylinder or top spring as it moves through its arc. The speaker has to be very shallow; you can mock it up with cardboard or clay for testing. There was not even enough room to mount this speaker behind the panel like I wanted to.
In '03 there were very few speakers that could fit here, but with the newer magnet technologies thinner speakers are more common. These are also synthetic cones so that water does not destroy them.

Does anyone know if theses are 5 x 7 or 6 x 9 or 4 X 6? The 5 x 7 BP is 2.60 inches deep (4 way) they have a 4 X 6 that is 2.05 inches deep 93 Way) 6X9 that is 3.1 inches deep (4 way)

I don't have an amp, just using an aftermarket (top end at the time) stereo. I have a self-amped Infinity Basslink sub in the trunk as mentioned in the other post. With proper crossover tuning on the head unit it sounds good on the road even on the freeway with the top down. It's impossible to match the acoustics of a coupe in a convertible.
Thanks Vikki!! It is between those and the Blaupunkt ODxa 574 units. The 574 are 4 way and 2.06 inches depth vs the 573 units you recomended depth 1.82 inches

I went a different route for what runs my sound...
I have the original AM radio plugged in to power but not hooked up to any speakers.
There's an iPod cable in my center console... It runs to a digital modulator that can modify sound levels... which runs to two amps in the trunk - one powers 2 speakers in the center grill and a pair of speakers in the kick panel vents.
The other amp powers a sub in the trunk.
It is completely a no-see'em system that sounds great!
No head unit is necessary to run the iPod.

What I think I am planning to do is to keep the AM radio, I have already changed out the single center speaker out of the dash with a dual speaker unit. I have kick panels that I will add speakers into and the new rear ones and then I will go ahead and hook the 4 spekers up to something hidden in the trunk with a portable remote with a readout that I can set anywhere. suggestions are wlecome. Thanks

I still have my factory AM/FM Multiplex Stereo in the '69 but the new head unit is in butt-ugly vinyl wrapped plywood box that came with the car. It is friction-fit between the bottom of the dash and top of the console, no fasteners needed. I want to find a new head unit that will fit in the glove box without removing the stereo's Multiplex component. I want to add MP3 capability and don't need CDs any more so size should not be a constraint.
And, of course, it needs a remote.

You don't need a head unit, secret audio, remote controllers, etc....
The only head unit I have is the AM radio - just for looks.
iPod -> digital volume control -> amps -> speakers. That's it. I actually have iPod connectors & regular audio mini jack - so I can use any type of audio device, but I personally use the iPod or my iPhone... it charges it and everything!

Sounds great, use my iphone now but also enjoy some FM stations and yes I have the apps for them on my phone but i constantly get calls and it ususally occurs when I'm trying to listen to music. Also here in California if I pick up my phone to do something with it I could get pulled over and get a ticket. That would be a reason for me to still have a head unit. The issue with secret audio to me is the wireless remote is ussless to me without the ability to see what i want on my ipod. I want somehting that is 100% wireless display and will display everything form my iphone

Hmmm... I don't have grill-off photos... or really any photos at the moment. Car has been in the shop 14 weeks. In a week or so, I hope to have my hands back on the car and can take some photos. I may need a reminder. Feel free to PM me

I'm just getting ready to order speakers/amps/etc for a 68 conv that I'm working on. I was going to put them in the rear well, but was never crazy about that idea, you install looks great. What size speakers did you install? Is that a grille that came with the speakers? Did you find it white or did you paint? I'm installing a parchment interior, so I'd rather not have a black grille. Did you put in any front speakers? I'm probably going with either 4" round or 4x6 in the kick panel.
These are the RetroSound R-463N speakers in 4x6. They were the shallowest ones I could find since clearance is such a huge issue back there. After looking at many pics of installs, It appeared that the manual top has even less room than the power one (I could be wrong on this). these speakers fit perfectly with room to spare. I actually hung the speakers with coat hanger wire back there for a few drives to make sure the sound improvement would be worth the cutting. The speakers come with the grills shown. They were black, but I painted them a thin layer of flat white, then hit them with Ames Performance interior paint VDM28. I installed Infinity Kappa 4x6 speakers up in the kick panels at the normal location using the repop grills from Ames. I also added a Kenwood P-W12Tb in the trunk. Tons of low end when you need it (top down freeway driving). The sound from this combo well exceed my expectation with a minimal footprint on a classic car. I can send you more pics if you want, just PM me.
Rounding out my system is the custom autosound USA-230 with a TuneLink for iPhone Bluetooth adapter plugged into the aux-in. All my music is sent wireless to the head unit and controlled right on my phone. The whole system was right around $600 self installed.
