1968 400 with gauge cluster temp gauge does not work it stays at 250 brought new temp sender no difference

Do a simple test. Unplug the temp sender and read the guage. Ground the lead of the temp sender to the block and read the guage. If its not moving then you may need to remove the guage cluster and trouble shoot from that end.

i will try that tomorrow been reading that there is a different harnest for gauges and idiot lights dose anyone know what the difference is brian

also may want to check the ground for the dash cluster, with it apart may need to be cleaned.
