I need to find a 3 speed shifter assembly. I looked online and only ebay had a used one. Used is ok but I have 2 now and both are worn pretty bad. What other gm products used the same cross member mount shifter assembly? Also my 67 bird has a sprint 6 with hood mounted tach but the tach is way off on the rpms, any advise would be welcome.

Camaro is the same but you probably knew that. I have one that was professionally rebuilt, picked it up at a vendor's booth at a swap meet. I ended up going with an auto instead so I didn’t use it. I sold all the manual tranny stuff not specific to the 3 speed but I still have the shifter. Pics are here in the old thread. I can take some more if you are interested. I think I paid $125 and I know I bought the ball separate.

About your tach, it might not be for a 6 cyl ?

Regarding your tach, it should be a 6500 rpm redline unit if it is original to the car. They a pretty rare. If it is original and not a 6500 rpm unit, it probably is meant for a V8 (in which case it will read incorrect). I know they make 6 cyl repos for the 68/69 models (low tach style) but the only repos I have seen for the high tachs are for the V8s. Bottom line, need to know what type you have first.

Thanks for the replys, I combined the 2 shifters i have and made 1 that works pretty well. As for the tach, it does start red line at 6500 (but goes higher)and is a low style. I was contemplating skipping the wiring harness to it and run wires direct. Thanks again!

OK you have something I have never heard of. It was my understanding that the 68 tachs (low style) for the 6 cyl lowered the redline to 5200 rpm (actually not really that sure about the redline because my research was done for 67s). The 6500 redline was only for the 67 models and it was the high style. Be interested in a picture, because one of the other cammers might be able to help.

Classic Industries lists a 68 hood tach with 5500 red line for L-6

$254.95

FYI even the RA IV version lists redline at 5500

I don't see any listed as 6500.

ETA: Also just looked at the list in Ames for GTOs and highest says 5500.

Never seen a repo on the 67 6500 rpm tach. I believe them all to be originals.
