I have a 68 bird conv 350. The fuel guage will show 1/4 tank but its empty. When full it shows way above full. Is there a way to calibrate this or fix it? Or just fill up before it reaches 1/4 tank? It used to be fairly accurate but now is way off. Thanks.
Food for thought: My old guage functioned similar. My new one, instaleld in about '89 was/is better. The problem with the new one is that, although it will read below a quarter and still have gas, I ran out one time with a quarter showing on the guage.
I call it empty when it reaches a quarter. And it may as well be empty because if it reads accuratly, from a quarter reading to aucking air is only a few miles down the road.
I'll have to agree. I replaced my fuel tank this spring with a new one, the sending unit was replaced when I rebuilt the car about 4-years ago. From a dry tank I dumped in 5-gallons from a can and the gauge read about 3/8ths. of a tank. So, by a 1/4 tank I'd call it about empty.

Thank you for the input. I should have never let it get down that far. I was having fun and forgot to look. Gonna fill when it gets slightly below 1/2 a tank since 1/4 empty. Thanks.
