I'm ready to sandblast and paint my frame. I want to have a stock looking color (60% gloss?) and use the best coating available. Let me know what your experience is with the coatings available on the market.
I did #3 above and was happy. But I do believe #1 is probably overall the best way to go. Cost goes up with powder coating.

Gus, I blasted my sub frame a 2 years ago after reworking the mounts and such. The surface was etched nicely from the media I used, and after it was cleaned with a solvent based cleaner, I used a product called Chassis Saver. The instructions were very specific in stating the product went on to BARE metal. It has a satin finish, and I brushed it on. It could have been applied by spray I suppose or reduced for spray.
They want $150/hr for blasting only or $1000 for blasting and powder coating.
I think you just answered your own question...

WTF!!!! I paid $150 to have my subframe blasted and powdercoated. If you can find somebody reasonable - that's the method I would vote for.

I had mine blasted, etched and sprayed with PPG epoxy. Still looks good 7 years later.
The only thing I would do different is put a top coat on the epoxy.
Did you spray the epoxy primer only then? That looks pretty awesome in itself. I saw a youtube vid and guy shows how you can bend a piece of steel painted with epozy and the paint will not chip!
I had my frame blasted for $70 and then Powder coated for $150. I looks good but I think if I think next time I'll just paint it. I don't think the powder coat place did the best of job.
If you do your control arms, make sure you remove the powder coat from where the bushings go. They are 100 times harder to press in if you don't. Ask me how I know.. Pics are on my photobucket
