With great sadness I need to part with my '69 convertible. It is a pro-touring resto-mod, although it appears mostly stock. Here's a little more about it.
The car was originally a midnight green 350 2bbl automatic with deluxe interior sold in Indianapolis to a doctor's wife. She had the car until 1992 and sold it to a friend of her son. He had it for a couple of years and sold it to the guy I bought it from. I purchased the car in 2007. When I bought the car it had been repainted the bright red that it is today. The hood had been changed to a 400 hood with the closed scoops. It had a Camaro spoiler on the trunk, new deluxe interior and new top. The original options included: deluxe interior, power top, power front disc brakes, power steering, trunk release, TH350 transmission, rally II wheels, head restraints, console, soft ray glass, deluxe steering wheel, clock, am radio, and custom trim.
When I got the car, I added the in-dash tach and rally gauge cluster, and removed the console, instead adding a hump hugger console and secret audio system which worked better with the Gennie shifter for the 2004r transmission. The entire front of the car was removed and the engine, transmission, steering and suspension were entirely rebuilt.
The car now has a 1971 400 block, bored .030 with stock rods and crank, TRW forged pistons, KRE aluminum heads with stainless valves and Comp Cams beehive springs, Comp Cams XE 274 cam, Edelbrock RPM intake, MSD billet distributor, RARE long branch manifolds, Magnaflow 2.5" stainless exhaust with X crossover, Bowtie Overdrives 2004r level 2 automatic with 2500rpm lock up converter, Hughes deep finned aluminum pan, transmission cooler with fan, aluminum radiator with dual 1500 Maradyne electric fans and shroud, flow cooler water pump, 750 Demon carb, K&N air cleaner, electric fuel pump.
The steering and suspension upgrades include: '92 IROC steering box with power steering cooler, Moog drag link, pitman arm and tierod ends, Speedtech tubular upper and lower control arms, Hotchkiss lowered front springs, Hotchkiss front sway bar, Edelbrock front shocks. The brakes are new stock Pontiac power front discs with new drum rears. Wheels are 15x7 Rally 2 with BFG radial 245 front and 255 rear tires, with trim rings and center caps. Also included but not yet installed are Hotchkiss subframe connectors specifically for the convertible. The cocktail shakers have been removed, but will be included. Currently the car has an open, stock Pontiac 10 bolt rear end with a highway gear. I ran out of money before I was able to swap it for a posi.
I'm also including the original 350 engine, which had been rebuilt before I bought the car and a lot of spare parts.
If you're interested, please email me at stevegarrison@cfl.rr.com and I'll send photos. The car is in Winter Park, FL. I'm asking $29.5K.
Thanks. Some of the members here may remember the stories of the restoration of the car. I had an identical one in goldenrod yellow that belonged to my father, but the body was too far gone for me to save it. I had completely disassembled it and began with the subframe, suspension and engine. When I realized that it was going to cost me way more than it was worth, I found this red one that had a decent body and new interior, but needed some mechanical work. I spent every Saturday and Sunday for six months over the summer and fall in an un-airconditoned garage in FL swapping parts onto the red car. Long story short, the garage where I was doing the work got broken into and over $5K worth of parts were stolen from the two cars. Luckily I had Grundy insurance and they covered the cost of replacing the parts. So I have a lot of blood, sweat and tears in this car. Hopefully I'll find a good home for her.
