This project has been sitting for over 2 years and I have just got back to working the car. I bought new brake lines and am routing them from front to back. It is two pieces and I am wondering if there is any type of proportioning valve in between the lines under the car that joins them or just a union to complete the line. I have the rusted out and decayed old lines to try and compare but I did not see anything. I have tried to look at some pics online of other cars and can't see to get a good one for there. Any help or pictures would be appreciated.
Yes, a valve goes in-line there if you are going back to original. The rest of the setup depends on whether you have disc/drums or drum/drums. Likely you have a distribution block up by the master cylinder, along with a small metering block, and then a small distribution valve in-line near the rocker, on the way to the rears.
I very recently upgraded my entire brake system and converted to a hacked up drum/drum to an OEM style disc/drum setup, and in the process I upgraded(?) mine to the more modern 70's "combination valve" that puts all 3 valves into one, mostly for simplification of install and purchase. This also completely changes my brake line configuration so I had to be careful to NOT purchase the "correct" brake lines for my car. This works great for me because on my particular car I do not prioritize originality, but performance. You can go either way, it just depends on what you are looking for with your car and which brake system you have...
69s came two different ways, a single line set-up(like my drum/drum 350 car had) and a disc/drum configuration which had a two piece line with a valve located under the drivers door. I'm not sure that valve is repopped. If it's not a disc car just connect the two lines and you're done. When I re-did my brakes I wanted to order the pre bent lines but the oversized shipping was more than the lines. I made my own for about $12 from twilightzone.
Thanks for the replies. I wish I saw your post regarding doing your lines for $12. I did order the pre bent lines but was on a trip to Montana and they delivered to the hotel for free because I ordered some other stuff as well but was still over $100. Like I mentioned the lines all came off 2+ years ago and were pretty badly rusted. I have them in pieces but there is no valve there. When I matched up the pieces to where it would run under the car it is solid line going from the back to past the subframe. Only valves are the two different ones by the master cylnder/Brake booster. Any idea if a person can get this valve that goes under the door? Sure wish I took pictures back then....first mistake of many along this journey.
Again this ASSUMES your car was actually equipped with it...for disc/drums. I guess I sorta made that assumption because you purchased 2 piece line, which would normally be for disc/drums I believe...and would need the valve
We still don't know if you're asking about a drum/drum or disc/drum car.
Thanks for the link and I apologize for my lack of information. It is an original disk/drum set-up and I was searching last night and on Inline Tube's website said the following when talking about the correction valve under the door:
This valve was not used in every factory disc brake car, but would make the front to rear line two pieces with the valve usually found mounted near the floor pan of the car. An original 1967-70 disc car can be factory correct without the correction valve, but not without the hold-off valve at the master cylinder
So I am guessing that may be what this car was originally and I should abe ordered the one piece line or just order the vavle that you sent the link for and be done with it.
TONS of info here...scroll down about 3/4 of the way to the bottom and they discuss this valve in a few separate instances. Explains what the valve is, what it does, etc. Whoever wrote this seems to think that the valve under the drivers seat was installed ONLY on SOME front disc/rear drum cars...the "nose heavy" ones...like V8's with A/C. And other cars with front disc/rear drums did NOT have this valve, if they were not considered "nose heavy."
Does this clarify or confuse? Your choice LOL...
Just to clarify, I do NOT know the answer to whether your car should have it or not...
LOL you did not confuse as I do understand what it does and it's purpose, just funny it is not there unless previous owner of the car modified the lines. I am just going to order from that link you posted for me and be done with it. LOL thank you for all of your information. I am suree this will not be my last post now that I am back into the car after a 2 year lay-off.
