Well I got the hood on today and surprize, surprize, the air filter hits the bottom of the hood. I had a Performer with a spacer and now have a performer rpm with no spacer but it touches. Anyone know of a drop base filter assembly that will fit over an Edelbrock carb?
Thanks. I looked them up, it's 2-3/4" from the carb up with a 3" filter, may just work. I'd like a little more clearance but if it doesn't do it I'll buy a thinner element.
I have an Edelbrock triangular filter now, it has been on the car since I bought it and now probs. But now hits with the rpm intake. The rpm is only supposed to be 5/8" taller than the Performer and I had a 3/4" spacer with the performer so this set up should be 1/8" shorter but it touches. Maybe the KRE heads are taller than the #48s I had on before.
Oops, I don't know where I got the 5/8" from. Just checked their site, performer is same height as stock, rpm is 1-1/4 higher. That makes this set-up 1/2" higher than I had before with the spacer.
Dr. Drive I like the idea of cutting the hole and stuffing a blower through it but for now a drop base filter. Thanks for the offer but I picked up a Moroso drop base a couple of days back. It fits after I cut a couple of inches off the stud.

The three inch element fits. I had a spacer with the Performer but left it off the RPM because it's higher and I didn't think it would fit under the hood with my Edelbrock cleaner. As it turned out the cleaner didn't fit anyway. I didn't have the spacer with me when we did the Dyno so I'm not going to use it. The carb guy at the Dyno shop wasn't too keen on it but it would be interesting to have a couple and compare them and the carb alone, I'll leave that for someone with deeper pockets than I have. We made more than twelve pulls tuning between each one just to get the carb tuned, if you had to change jets or rods a couple of times and do three or four pulls for each spacer it would get rather expensive. You have to put an adapter plate between the manifold and carb, when using an Edelbrock carb, to eliminate leaks but it's only about 1/8" thick. What carb and spacer are you using?
I'm running a 840 Qjet and an open 3/4" spacer(don't know what brand, probably Mr Gasket), 4" K&N element and a filter top lid as well. I'll get her on the dyno one of these days. Are you running hood insulation?
Almost, wouldn't want to get any whiskers on the paint though. Nicely reflects the 60 to 100 foot Douglas Firs that surround our house, 'gets us rather nervous in a 60 to 80+ MPH wind.
13 square miles, not big enough to let loose, I have to take the ferry over to Vancouver Island to really give it a run and hope the over abundance of RCPM leave me alone. Not that I'd recklessly put anyone in danger. One has to have a regular dose of being planted in the back of the seat.
Yeah, I pretty much feel cheated if I get back home and haven't mashed on the go pedal at least once. One more reason my wife is hesitant to ride in the car with me.
That is some sweet paint! Also I like that 428 on the hood. I can't tell you how many times my wife and I have watched the people in cars next to us at a red light mouth "four twenty eight" and then give us a thumbs up.
Most think mine has a Ford 428 or it's really a Chev 427. First two 'Pontiac guy' machine shops I checked out to have the block machined didn't know Pontiac made a 428. I went elsewhere. Trouble is he still screwed up three times. Really a "Ford guy".
Maybe I'll put 326 numbers on my hood scoop. I wonder if I'll fool anybody? Probably only the ford guys.
Hey, I have some I can send you. Those would look cool on there!
