We are at the point of carpet and insulation. What is the best cheap insulation for sound and heat? We found rolls that you have to cut and fit yourself. Any suggestions?
just like the factory ,jute, you can buy it at carpet stores. But i found they want you to buy a large piece or nothing.
I bought a 12x12 section of 1/4 inch at a yard sale.I can cut it in half and sell you some. For the heat you can buy the reflective blanket material , like the one used on the doghouse/engine cover in a van. that stuff isnt all that expensive.Im only going to use it right where the mufflers are under the rear seat.
I used second skin's Damplifyer pro and then just put down the carpet. My only regret is I should have put down a heat blanket. It blocks a lot of heat but not all of it. I wish I would had put the damplifyer pro all the way up the firewall on the inside but I already had to much installed at that point.
thanks rohrt, heat blanket. lol i couldnt think of what its called. You can buy it at RV supply stores , and sometimes i see that super magical mystery blanket. its super reflective heat wise and is very light weight. my only heat issue is where the mufflers are under the rear seat.

We used HVAC duct insulation from Home Depot for the heat and sound. A lot cheaper than dynomat and easy to install. It came in rolls about 12" wide. Works great!
I heard of guys using "ice and water" guard for roofs. It's a product like dynomat but it's a lot cheaper... Might be worth looking into.

colorado, Same stuff I used. I wasn't crazy about the thought of stepping into a locked car that had been sitting in the summer heat and smelling melting asphalt. I get enough of that at work.

Bob, what are you doing lying down in parking lots?
Occasionally!!! Not always per plan though What, like you never wake up and don't know where you are or how you got there...or how you got all these bruises???? Can't be just me. Can it?
I used the factory asphalt stuff from Ames in my bird. I just put carpet in the goat and used the cheaper "rubberized" stuff from Ames and I like it better. The asphalt stuff has a top and bottom and it turned out the passenger front piece was cut upside down so the asphalt had to be up. The rubberized stuff is easy to work with an you can flip it either way. Just my 2 cents...
This seems to be the most affordable non-asphalt stuff I have found: http://www.lobucrod.com/ I'm not at insulation yet, so I don't know how good it is, but it is probably in the same family as RV insulation. Check out the link near the bottom about the customer testing.
I did a bit of homework on this before I decided what to go with because I needed heat guard for one car and noise guard for another. I went with different products for each condition. I used the duct wrap for the noise and some reflective bubble wrap for the heat. If you want to get real technicle you can go with some micro glass bead suspended in a coat of latex applied to the inside floor for heat insul. I don't personally know how well it works but it's something that I read about.
