I kept a trailer hitch off off my first 67 (12 years I've had this thing!)... now I have a 67 convert and I'm thinking about installing it. I think it would be nice to be able to pull a little trailer for long weekends and camping with the kids...
Does anyone know what the tow rating is for the convert? Is it even something I want to do?
I see a ton of good feedback on this site! Thanks in advance!
Not sure about the towing capacity of a convertible but glad i'm not the only one out there to have thought of it.I've been toying with putting a "hidden" hitch on mine at some point to do pretty much what you mentioned, however was afraid of the backlash :p .My convertible is a full framed convertible though. My 69' bird coupe had a class three hitch on it and i towed my 15' 1/2 foot boat/trailer on 8 inch rims and would do 100mph and a lot of times i forgot i was towing it Had no problems with it on a coupe. My 69's was welded onto the frame. Problem is if you need to drop your gas tank.Something to also take into consideration unless you have a bolt on style hitch.Keep in mind the structural integrity of a coupe vs. a convertible.Possibly a set of frame connectors would be of help but it is something you should very seriously consider before towing anything of any weight before you do so.My two cents

My old FGF was a coupe. I towed a 1964 15 1/2' boat with it to Lake Shasta with no trouble for several years.
The hitch is a bolt on style that has a metal support plate behind the licence plate and two bars that reach back and bolt to the front side of the trunk.
The only thing you see once it's installed is the flat ball mount sticking out below the licence plate.
I'm thinking of a 3' x 6' lightweight utility trailer for suitcases and such...
I can't see a small trailer being a problem using it on occasion.
