Just wondering if anyone has ever tested their original paint for Lead content? Our 69 Firebird was originally Goldenrod Yellow and was over coated red. We will of course use proper dust masks and vacuum up dust with a hepa vac. Thanks.

Not enough lead to even worry about.
Are you taking the car to bare metal?

I do not believe lead was ever an issue with automotive paint.

The enamel paint you got in a can, and painted with a brush, was the stuff to be worried about.

However, may other frightening things in automotive paint to worry about.

But then if we worried about everything that could hurt us we wouldn't be able to get out of bed in the morning.

I must have cast 300LBS of fishing sinkers and jigs out of lead from old tire weights over the past 25 years.
Also have stripped down 6-8 old lacquer paint jobs.
I'm just as healthy as anyone else

Get that car down to bare metal and spray on epoxy primer/sealer

When I re painted my 58 VW bug in 1968 , I rented a work bay at an Exxon station (in Sweden) at night , just sanded away...by hand ,to bare metal...no mask, nothing , I never had any problems....
o wait , maybe thats it! all my problems adjusting to current govt may stem from that! lol

Home Depot sells a dust mask that filters lead. Check in their paint department. I think it is a dollar or two more than the regular ones.
