Hello All,looking for help with color of tach signal wire on a 1969 firebird convertible. This is a stock 350 car with the turbo 350 transmission.Wondering what wire I can hook up to tach which is a sun mini tach? Thanks for any help.
You should have a wire for light and it ties to the instrument panel lights, then a black that is a ground wire, a red that goes to a 12v power source that comes on with the ignition switch, and a green wire which goes to the minus terminal of the coil.
I heard of some people wiring the light to switched power so that it is on whenever the car is running. The idea was to have the light on as a small source of heat to help prevent condensation inside the tach gauge. That's what I did, and I don't have condensation. However, I don't drive my car much when it's damp out either. Just something to think about...
Thank you all for your input.I did connect tach to the - side of the coil with the green signal wire from the tach but the tach will not move. This is the 2nd tach,I sent back the first one because it only moved off zero a small amount.Wondering if I need a tach adapter?Acton says it needs 5 volts from the coil,I have about 6 volts.Any ideas???Pertronics say call Acton. This is a Sun Pro II mini model CP7904.Nice little tach if I can get it to work.Plan on installing it were the stock nonworking clock was removed.
