69 firebird coupe The tails lights turn on when i pull the light switch but they do not turn on when i hit the brakes. Neither the turn signals nor hazards work. I changed the 2 flashers, fuses and turn signal switch. I used a meter to check for current on the orange wire from the brake switch and it marks 13-14. I took a cable straight from the ignition to the orange cable on the brake switch and the ligts work like that, until i pull the knob for the lights. The left signal light on the dash is green sometimes. When the lights are on and i push the brake, only the left tail lights on. The only way i can get the tails lighs to ligt with the brake is connecting from the ingnition switch. i think its a ground issue. Where should i check for ground connections? I have no side marker bulbs; do i need the bulbs for stuff to work?
if you have a failed bulb the current from the taillamps can backfeed through the signal lamp circuit causing the indicator lamp to illuminate. the bulbs are all grounded through the taillamp housings by the metal tab on the bulb socket, the bulbs will not work properly without all of them being installed in their holes and the lamp housings being grounded. other than through ground there is no connection between the taillamps and the signal/brake lamps, they are seperate circuits. hope this helps
