So i just scooped up a 69 from a good friend. First thing i would like to do is convert it to an HEI distributer. However i dont know anything about pontiac's so I need some direction. Can I find a donor HEI? If so what to look for? I know the car has a 400/400 combo.

If you are just looking to get rid of the points, take a look at pertronix. simple install and it keeps a fairly stock look.

Your better off to convert it as mentioned above or buy a new HEI from someplace like Summit.

A stock HEI is pretty big and you may have clearance problems with the firewall.

You can fit a stock HEI in the hole. Stab the dist the the vac advance pointing at 7. Get a wire set for a 77-78 TA 400 or custom wire set. If you go with stock cut wires you'll want #1 in the back pointing at the wiper motor. Also run about .060 gap on the plugs. Your also going to need a keyed 12v to the coil. I got lucky at the salvage yard 77 LeMans 301 with a newish Napa HEI for only $15.
