I bought repop cigarette lighter from Firebirdcentral last summer. My car was totally rewired, and after installing the lighter it worked great....until I plugged in an iphone charger. I am trying to figure out if that definately caused the lighter to not work anymore, or if it was just coinsidence and I have other issue.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not sure. That reminds me.. Anyone have trouble removing the cig outlet to replace it? I played like hell trying to remove mine and gave up. Seems like it should unscrew, but there's a very good chance it's operator error....

Yes, fuse pops now with nothing in it Also, back up lights not working also. The only switch on the car that has not been replaced is the ignition switch. Seems to work fine, do not need to wiggle it or anything to get the car to start. Just wondering how the cigg lighter and reverse lights can quit, just a coincidence?
Unplug the cig lighter from the back and replace the fuse. If the fuse is ok with it unpluged, I'd say the outlet is bad. Not sure what the reverse lights have to do with it though.. I don't have a wiring diagram in front of me.

Agreed. Try new fuse with no load on it and then plug lighter back in. If it pops that's your problem. Back up lights should be powered from completely different fused output unless there's been some creative rewiring done.
Every time I put an new fuse in, then engage the cigarette lighter it blows. I guess I was relating it to the reverse lights because when it first happened, the reverse lights also quit working. Lighter worked fine until I plugged the phone charger in. The car is 100% rewired with Painless kit That's why I was wondering if a bad ignition switch might be the common denominator.
I am a long term lead technician in a low voltage electronics industry which by no means makes me an expert in auto electronics. However if your lighter socket got damaged when you had the charger plugged in and is now pulling too many amps that would create the problem that you are describing. I seriously doubt there are any problems beyond that.
