So as I am putting this 68 back together...I am going thru a lot of head shaking and "what the hell were they thinking" moments
My rear lamp harness was hacked by a previous owner cutting the passenger side marker light connector " along with cutting the terminal off the license plate lamp" and wiring these two together
My questions are what is the two outlet terminal for by the gas filler? "One black-one brown"
Does the license lamp "mind you, the plug was cut off the license lamp" plug into this? Also I have a brown wire in a gromet that is disconnected and assuming that is for the fuel gauge and probably explains why my gauge reads full all the time
Also my trunk floor-quarters-rear wheel wells-tail light pannel were replaced. The previous owner just put the rear harness along the quarter-tail light pannel...Going thru boxes, I found several clips that look as if they secure the wiring Okay...where do the clips go and how do they secure?
Indeed, one of those wires at the center feeds license lamp, the other feeds the Fuel tank sending unit. Both of these items then ground to the body. As for color, just look at a wiring diagram to see which is which...or turn the lights on to see which one goes hot with the lights.
Are you installing a NEW harness? Or re-hacking the old one? The only real "clips" were little plastic push-pins that snap into round holes at various places along the bottom of the taillamp support panels. If you bought a new harness, these clips should be wrapped within the taped wires, and in about the right places, allowing you to easily see which hole each clip aligns with.
I can't really be any help with which colour wires go where, but for the correct routing, here's some pics of my un-touched wiring. Here's a Link to the gallery if you want to see them bigger.
The plastic clips go through the small holes at the base of the tail panel. (not sure if the repop tail panels come with these holes)
The locations of the clips show in Jarett's pictures where there are pairs of strips of cloth tape. (kind of all along the base of the tail panel) The tape connects the wire wrap tubing to the 't' shaped clips. The point of the clips go through the holes mentioned above.
The brown wire(s) through the tail panel are for the license lamp and gas tank wire. I know the tail panels do not come with this hole drilled. So you need to mark and drill based on the original panel.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not sure.
