I have been looking for a long time to find the missing console for my 68 vert, 3 speed manual. I want to know if anyone has had success making one. Currently I have a 67 console in the car. I made the top metal wood grain plate, I think that it will fit well, but on the 67 console the metal plate in the middle connects to the 2 side chrome strips, so I can't fit it up. I was wondering if anyone has done this conversion with a 68 console, because I can find lots of auto consoles. Want to know if it worked well before I buy one.

I got bored so I decided to make the top to convert an auto console to a manual. It worked very well. Took me about 1/2 a day not including a couple trips to the hardware store looking for bolts that I could weld on as stud bolts to the sheet metal plate I bent for the top. Just ended up grinding down some machine screws. Anyway it fits excellent a looks good, I have to decide if I am going recover the console lid. But it matches much better than I expected. I hope the pictures show up below, as I have never posted pics before.

Wow! Pretty nice. Did you make the bucket for the shifter as well or is that one of the repops?

Another member not too far from the TC. I was just through Redwood a couple of weeks ago on my way to Pipestone!

Post some picts of your car. Nice work on the console too!

How many times can you say 'correct' in the same ad?

I'm with Robert, until someone sets these side by side with an original and does an honest comparison, I'm not buying one.

Ya, I was lucky enough to have a good one with mine. I have not cleaned mine yet to see how the burlwood is going to come out. But its complete "I think" except for the mounting bracket.

What mounting bracket do you need?

I have the front horse collar bracket if you need one.

That is one I'm missing. Are there other bracket too? Mine was completely loose and just laying in there. I had not researched anything about it yet. I thought I would wait till I get to the interior before I worried about it.

There is the front bracket, then there is one bolt through the bottom of the glove box into a floor nut, and one bolt through the rear ash tray into a floor nut.

So you just need the one bracket.

No I am not going to sell them, I just needed something to do since it never stops snowing. I do know that they make repo consoles but for $500 to $600 plus shipping and not knowing the quality, I'm gonna guess that mine is comparable and I only got about $75 into it and that includes the shift plate (aftermarket for whoever asked), which you have to also buy with the repo consoles.

TPLS68400 You must have had a [censored] good reason to go to Pipestone, I have to go there once every two years, and on the way back I have a great feeling because I know that it is the longest possible time before I have to go back.

It looks like I have one of the big bolts still in the floor, LOL. I see the other hole too.

I dug my console out. Mine has a blank filler where the ashtray was but I do see where the bolts hole is.

Pm me what you want for the bracket.
