Excuse my ignorance, but has anyone had a headlight switch go bad? My dome lights under the dash ('68 convertible) very often will come on all by themselves. The reason I think it might be the headlight switch is a couple times this happened I turned it back and forth and the dome lights turned off again. But since then when the lights "decide" to turn on they don't turn off regardless of what I try. I can play with the door switches and nothing happens. It seems to me it really can only be the headlight switch.
Had the same thing in my 67 conv, it was the light under the dash (driver side) it was grounding itself out. I played with the socket untill I got them to go off. I think they are hot all the time and door switches make ground to turn them on.
Hmmm... I don't think that is the case with me because when they turn on they BOTH turn on at the same time. Like I said, I tried turning the headlight switch back and forth the first couple times and the lights turned off. Playing with the door switches didn't seem to do anything. Now when the lights turn on NOTHING will turn then off, except a good nights rest. Then after a couple hours of driving they turn on again.
When you open a door the one door switch turns on bolth lights by makeing ground to the hole light circut. (playing with the door switches didn't seem to do anything) becaues the shorted light is doing the same thing as if you pushed the door switch.(after driving they turn on again) probably vibration from driving moves socket enough to open circut. Dose your light switch dim the dome lights?
I agree with 8point, the headlight switch assembly "MIGHT" be the problem, but more likely its one of the under dash sockets just not set quite right. Had this happen several times with my 68, and it was always fixed by messing with those two dash sockets for some reason.

Yup mine do the same thing if the underdash light on the driver side is not sitting just right in the socket holder it keeps the inside lights on. Kinda weird
I have the same problem, it kills the battery when un-noticed. I was also thinking head light switch. If we want to prove this, don't we just take out the under dash lights? If the dome light comes on, it kind of kills the under the dash light theory.
After I pulled out the kick panel on the pasager side I couldn't get the lights to shut off. I found out the switch had gone to ground. Diconect the back on the switches and tape them off and see if it still does it. If so then change the HL switch.
