When ever I fill the tank and the car sits in the garage, it just fills my garage with a fuel smell. And this will continue until I run an 1/8 of a tank out and then the smell stops. I'm not over filling the tank, but I have no clue why this happens. Any thoughts?
Poss sending unit gasket or o-ring. What ever is has. Any chance you used too long of a screw to hold down something in the trunk and put a hole in the tank?

I had that happen too...if I parked with full tank, heat in garage in summer would expand the gas and it would seep out the gasket abv the sending unit., blowing the seal..I replaced the gasket at the unit , then made sure my vented gas cap really vented ,see another tread.
Last week I jacked up the rear of my '69 and when I walked around to the front there was some gas leaking out of the right side (passenger side) of the front. There is a rubber hose about 4" long close to the top A frame bushing that connects the steel fuel line that comes form the tank to the steel line that crosses over to the fuel pump. That short piece had a hole in it. The hose is probably about the heignt of the top of the tank. Not sure if this is your problem but worth checking.

The wonders of Ethanol will do this to original rubber. Not sure if that's an issue, but it certainly could be. I run only non-ethanol in my 'birds now that it's available year round again.
