Last year I had my dash completely apart because I was repainting the entire surface. Now that I have everything back together I've encountered only one problem, when my headlights are on, the high beam indicator light is on as are the rest of my gauge lights and both turn signal lights (are not blinking, just solidly lit up). When I put my high beams on, the indicator light goes out, but also all my gauges stop working, speedo, temp, gas, battery, and the lights for them go out also. The only place I disconnected the wires from is from the back of the gauge cluster, is there any other place I could have somehow screwed up reconnecting to cause this?
Did you pull the plastic circuit board on the back of the speedometer cluster? Could of bent or pinched one of the circuit lines on it. Thats the only thing I can think of if you only disconnected the wiring connections in back of it.
Random/bizarre lights are almost always caused by poor ground connection(s).
Is the cluster grounded? After repainting, did you scratch the fresh paint off of the dash at your ground connections for the cluster and dash, before putting ground connections back in place?
Thanks guys! As far as I know of I did not paint on the backside of the dash where the ground wires are at, but I will definitely check it out. As for the circuit board, I took extra precaution handling it so hopefully it's something as simple as a faulty ground!
I just went thru the same thing, I put a new circuit board on my cluster. It was doing the same thing, After taking the cluster out a few times trying to figure out what was the problem, I wired all the ground straps together into one ground the problem cleared up. Boy I had some fun with that one.
