Last year I finally got the gaps on the front sheet metal acceptable after the new engine went in. Six months later, my hood hinges are giving out and the rear corners are sticking up! (Cut to wife rolling her eyes).
Anybody have a line on new GM hood hinges lately? Ames shows that the passenger side is not available anymore.
Try this before you replace. Open hood. Loosen the two rear hinge bolts. Push up on the front of the hood(the hinges should rotate on the front bolts). You may have to have someone hold it up or use a prop. Tighten all bolts. Close hood. See if the rear corners come down.
Thanks guys. I had adjusted the hood per Robert's post when I put it back on. Now the adjustment on the back fastener is all the way down. The hood looks perfect until the nose gets about 3 inches from the latch. From that point on, the rear corner rotates up until it's about a quarter of an inch proud. I can see where the top rivet on the hinge is starting to mouth out.
Since they are discontinued, I will keep looking for a while. would rather have GM than repops.
There is a guy that rebuilds the hinges to be like new. His name is: Rowland Hall Services, 1901 Jackson St., Burbank, CA 91504, Tel 818-845-3574 Cell 818-726-9440 Fax 818-845-2012
