What's a good way to clean the wire harnesses for the engine bay?

Old cracked and greasy wires are not worth the and effort.
Buy a new harness.

We keep Kleen-flo multiclean plus, stock #187. It is a water based degreaser, use it straight for many things and rinse it with a hose or thin it with water. Many others, Ducasol, Tough tiger. Undiluted they will all damage rubber floor mats. Great on engines and tires.

I use wesleys bleche white for grease and crud. Use an electronic parts cleaner for connections.

How old are the wires?
If they are 25 yrs or more, I agree with Gus, replace them too many birds have burned up.

Agreed...my 67 caught fire in 2000. Somehow the alt wire shorted and burned up the ENTIRE front headlight and engine harness...
