I installed a new weather stripping for the hood a few months ago. I assumed that it would relax after some use but it is still jacking the hood up. The result is that the entire hood is now out of whack and it is very noticeable.

Anyone have advice on ho to get these things to relax?

What brand is the weather stripping? I had I believe the OER brand & had the same issue. I bought the Metro brand & it worked perfectly.

Unfortunately I o not know what the brand is but I do know that it is not from OER. I may have to buy another one to make it work right.

Anyone have a recommendation for a online company that carries better hood weather seal than the one I have?

Thanks.

Based on what I have read on the internet--you know how that goes--the replacment is too tall. Based on my experaince with rubber parts, they are too large or too small.

Mine origional broke all to chit when I pulled the cowl. It was an ongoing, weeklong project, glueing this part, let it set overnight, glue that part, let it sit, until I fixed it.

I'm usually unhappy with the results. When I'm doing my photo shoot, I try to remember to take pictures of it because it came out beautiful, with one spot appearing as a small crack.

Update: I received a response from a PY member that said I will need to search Ebay to find a GM replacement. So far no listing that I could find. I then went to Ames and the guy said that even though they list the part as GM it is a repop. They have had no trouble for a couple of years. Then there was an awkward pause from the guy and he just hung up. -- Alrighty then --- I then went to PY and called. Jockeyed around their answering system hell and nobody picked up.

I do have a list for a bigger order so this was a test run to see what response I would get.

Any other suggestions?

Excellent idea and that is what I am going to try. I did some Googling and found a company that had a GM NOS one in stock. I bought it and some other goodies. When the order comes in I will post an update.

The seal is a safety item. I know it doesn't happen often but if you blow a rad hose without this seal in place you see NOTHING!

This might be a nice surprise for the FGF group. Of course I found this AFTER I ordered one for more money lol.

The problem with them is that they are like Classic, they charge you outrageous shipping fees.

Yep. I checked and hey do charge for the single item but like most when you order more the price nearly stays the same. At least it is available and I can get one that works right.

Ok, my 73 Pontiac parts catalog list #3891661 for 67-69 FB.
Same # is listed for 71-73 X bodies.
So i'd say GM changed the # to 3927464 some time ago.
Think i'll order one from GM to look at.

Just so you guys know, that site is not owned or operated by GM.
It's an independent dealer, so not everything may be GM original.
Just say'n...

Forgot.
GM's cost is 9.14
Wonder how they my make money at 9.32. Shipping?

I got my order in from ... eh hum... Heartbeat City Camaro lol. They have what they claim to be a GM hood seal so that is how I ended up at their site. Their prices are very good and everything I bought was Firebird/Camaro interchangeable.

The seal came in a non descriptive clear bag with a few numbers on it. The seal itself had a heavy coating of white powder? so it is not like any repop I have every seen. The seal is nowhere near as tough as the repop I have to compare it too. It is cut to the proper length and when the hood is closed it settles even with the fenders.

I'm happy.
