This is like making a clean spot. Now everything else is dirty. The more I repair and replace the more I find that I say "Oh I should fix that while I am here".

Make it stop!

Yeah, like it's ever going to stop. smile
It's like painting a bridge...once you get to the other end you have to start back at the beginning and start all over again. The hard part is when you have to rebuy everything that you just replaced because now you want something different. It's the reason my garage shelves are so full of stuff.

Aint it the truth. Project creep is a killer. My shelves are also full of parts for projects that decided to take a different direction, or had to be put on hold while I fixed xyz just so I could get to the original project.

Do what I did. Buy the car out of state after a short test drive. Return with a trailer, take it home. Drive it 1 more time to get it registered and then tear it completely apart.

At least you got to drive it once! The last three were partially in boxes and were not driveable at all for one to three years. frown

Not complaining...but...beat this...

Bought a 2nd one to drive while restore 1st one.
After 3 yrs of fix this-replace that on 2nd one, decided just completely redo it. Had lots of good parts, just not done correctly. Then found hidden body damage and rust...
Found no rust GTO just needed engine/trany/paint(which i had) for a great price.
Then company got bought out, lost good job.
Not long after, buddy with a drink'n-drive'n problem(did not know until after) to do body work ended up in hospital for a month.
mean while his brother cleaned out his account(with my 1/2 down payment), stole some of my parts and ebayed them.
Couldnt prove it was him until was to late. There was no police report filed. I checked when i went to get my car(with no frt end, doors, and qtrs cut off).
So now both cars completely torn apart on shelves.
Had to sell my 68 GTO to pay bills.
Then sold engine/trans to pay more bills.

Anyhow hope this makes you feel its not so bad. Could be worse..

My car hates me...

It ends either with death or sale of the car. I think we're all in the same boat here.

agreed, then there's the wall of shame for (mostly) Taiwanese repro pieces that are crap!

But I agree with the bridge maintenance theory, once all the parts are to your liking the first ones you attended to are in need of rework... frown

I often get the question, "are you done with the work on your car?" The answer is always "I will never be done".

A 45 year-old vehicle that ran a full complement of daily driver years seems to always have a running list of projects. And each project seems to expand into even more projects.

If you don't have a love for constantly tinkering, I don't know why you ever get into this hobby.
