I think they only made the straight(firebird)one and the tilted in(big car) filter housings. To get it angled backwards you have to use a sandwiched adapter block that has cross drilled passages. RARE makes the best one I've seen. It's a one piece design. The others are two piece and are more prone to leaking.
I did the modification to my oil filter adapter described here and it worked great. I had clearance issues with a norm big oil filter and my headers. this slight elongation of two of the mounting holes allows the filter to tilt very slightly back which gave me the clearance I needed. http://www.pontiacstreetperformance.com/psp/modoiladapter.html
OK I found the RARE site, does the adapter-block bolt to the cylinder block with flat-head countersunk bolts and then the filter adapter bolt to the rare adapter-block? I only see two threaded holes and four through holes in the pic.
The adapter block bolts to the engine block with two bolts and then the third one goes through both the filter housing and the adapter. I think (IIRC) the filter housing has two additional bolts that fasten it to the adapter block. The only thing to look out for is the one "hidden bolt" that goes through the adapter block and into the engine block comes too long(or it used to) and would bottom out before getting tight resulting in a leaker. You either have to cut a 1/4" off or use a shorter bolt, unless they have adjusted the supplied hardware since the last time I bought one.
I have the adapter on my 350, but not enough clearence to remove the filter once it is unscrewed between headers and frame. Any known solution to this problem?

On my 400HO with the longbranch manifold and AC, I unscrew the filter and drain as much oil as practical from it to reduce the mess. Then slide it along the exhaust pipe sideways until I find a point that it can be rolled out from underneath.
