The heavy duty 3 speed was a ford toploader, at least in some models. Not sure about stock in a 69 bird. My friends 66 goat has one. They a supposed to be indestructible.

My brother had a 69 that he bought new. He ordered it with the three speed on the floor because he was told the insurance was cheaper. He had to put a clutch in it years later and he noticed it had Ford stamped on it. Barry

That is amazing - never would have thought. Some great cruise night trivia for the boys.

I believe all the GTO's and Firebirds with a 3-speed manual used the M-13 Dearborn produced Ford trans.
The standard trans in the 69-71 Judge was a 3-speed too, just like in the 1969 Trans Am. In 1971, the 455HO was the standard (and only) engine for The Judge, and the base transmission was still the 3-speed manual. Only eleven 1971 Judges were ever built with the 3-speed.

I'm pretty sure only the heavy duty 3 speed was the ford toploader. It was an option beyond the base 3 speed whic was probably a saganaw.
