Might want to ask him if he'll drag it out to Long Beach Swap Meet this weekend. If so, I'll give it a once over myself. I paid $9300 2 years ago for mine with a 4-speed, but needed paint.

Unfortunately, another CA car that suffered from living near the beach. Rust in the floors, dash, roof, hood. Needs deck lid. Runs good but not pretty under the hood either. Originally Sea mist green. A better color than red (IMO). My question is; should the engine be stamped with the VIN in '68? It's a YT block but engine number 599849 does not match VIN. I may pull PHS docs if we can get close on the price....

If that number is stamped directly above the YT, that is the engine unit number which would match the PHS. (if correct engine, of course)
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not sure. In all of my years of experience with classic cars I never have understood about people bragging about a California car. Sure they don't see hard winters but the air in general is full of salt which is just as damaging.
In general the California car hype is true. I have owned many cars from the dry areas of California that look like unblemished underneath when they are 40-70 years old. The problem is the coastal areas get the moist salt air. It seems especially true in the Oxnard plain area. It is always nice and cool there but it kills the cars that sit outside. I live 20 minutes from there and it's a totally different dry climate.
