I'm in the process of installing the front and rear molding. The rear went on OK. I used what I think are the correct rear molding clips (all the catalogs call these the rear clips anyway):
When I go to the front, I've been trying to use these clips...what everyone seems to call the front clips:
The problem is that the front molding doesn't seem to want to latch onto those front clips. If I use the "rear" clips, the front molding catches pretty well. I tried to examine the marks left by the old clips, and they look more like the rear clips. I didn't take this molding off, so I don't know what was there originally. I did get a box of rusted clips with the car, and I only see the "rear" style in there.
Is it possible that some cars only used the "rear" style? Is there any issue with using the "rear" style for the front? I don't want to find out on the highway why this is a bad idea.
This is for a '69 coupe. I am going to use the screw in clips for the front bottom molding...this is just for the sides and top.
