Need some advice. I wanting to change out my poweglide for a 4-speed. Not interested in numbers matching but I do want a smooth transition. My questions are:

Will any muncie 4 speed bolt in or do I need a certain model? I am aware of the need for a 27 spline but is there varying lengths of tailshaft housings?

Will the 4 speed bolt up to my powerglide crossmember?

Will the driveshaft that I have in the car now be the right one or does it need to be lengthened(or shrotened)

Any help will be appreciatted.

i have all the parts you will need.the crossmenber and driveshaft should be the same

Tell Terry (69firebirdman) exactly what you have right now, and he will match your setup with the 4-speed parts. Stick with him, he knows these cars and has the big parts you need.

how much are the parts to convert to a 4 speed and does anything have to be welded in

Nothing has to be welded on, and if you have all the correct parts, it's a peice of cake to convert. With the crossmember, I belive that automatic and manual are the same. I think that it's the 400 slush box that has a different crossmember--isn't it?
