I have one in my 68. In hindsight I should have just changed the rear gear, but, of all the money and time I spent on my car that's the one single thing that I'm happy with the most. I have a 373 diff. and I can now cruise at highway speed below 2000RPM. If you don't mind spending the money go for it or maybe a six speed. I got mine from Keisler. I didn't have to fix, modify, change, repair, tweak, massage, alter or persuade anything, unlike almost every other item I've purchased or otherwise obtained for my car.
I thought about it but the 5 speed I can use my existing clutch etc. If I jump up to the 6 speed there are many more mods. The kit is only $700.00 more but the other mods get expensive

Just saw an ad over on PY last night for a Tremec 5 that someone is pulling out of their car to sell. Sounded like a good deal. The good thing is you know it fits and works. You probably will have to source a few things that the seller will want to keep but it might be the way to go. I don't know the seller. Just giving a heads up in case you were serious.
Am in process of putting one in my '68. Got TKO600 from Hurst Driveline Conversions. So far the biggist issue is with the shifter. Had to cut out more of the tunnel than what I expected due to its design, and the shifter height is about 4 inches higher than the Muncie, so the stock boot can't be used. I plan to put in a thin piece of aluminum around the shifter to fill the gap, then shop for a new boot/trim ring.
I had to repair the tunnel when I installed the tko 600 in my 68. Someone in the past had cut the hole larger with a torch. I used a piece of .032" 2024 T-3 aluminiun. I put a 69 trim around a 68 boot. The boot is for a round shifter arm but fits the flat one OK untill I get a 67 boot
Just re-read Va68's post. Do you mean the shifter and stick are 4 inches higher than the Muncie or just the shifter itself? The part on the Hurst shifter that the stick bolts to is at about the same height as the TKO shifter stub. The stick itself ended up approximately the same height and position as when it was attached to the Muncie and the Hurst shifter. The only part of the TKO that protrudes through the tunnel is the shifter stub.
I installed the complete kit from American Powertrain in my 69. Converted from an automatic to a manual and I had absolutely no fitment issues. The transmission works great and I highly recommend it. Tom
