I've been looking for some time for a decent 400 to build up for my '68 (when I purchased it 6 years back, it came with a chev 350). Just located a 1974 481988 (block only). It is a nice clean block, standard bore - just pulled the original GM pistons out of it. Already have a set of 16 heads as well. The guy I bought the block from also has a complete '74 350 engine running, which he's willing to throw in for a minimal cost.
Few questions for you guys..
1. Is there much difference in the pulleys, brackets, etc from a '68 400 to a '74 350 engine? I'd just like this to look as much like a stock '68 400 as I can within reason
2. Are 350 and 400 cranks interchangable? I assume so.. but never hurts to ask!
Excited to get working on this block over winter... its been a long time coming!
