OK got another question for the experts...our '67 coupe came factory equipped with a 2 bbl 326 and the Pontiac version of the 2 speed Powerglide...whatever they called it. It has no kickdown rod or cable...and I don't see evidence that it ever had one..?? Is it possible that it never had one? If it's supposed to have one, where is the hookup on the trans I don't see it ? Is it doing any harm running without one (It runs pretty strong without one....don't even really miss it ??)
Well I see where Ecklers sells the bellcrank and linkage rods for the 2 speed automatic kickdown...but from what I can tell the kickdown is an elctrical switch at the (driver side) of the trans....
Can anyone tell me or have a picture of how it all hooks up?
they repop the bracket for the switch, but the switch itself is rare as hens teeth. start checking ebay and post in the parts wanted section. prepare to pay handsomely for it as well.
If total originality is not a concern, the aftermarket offers electric kickdowns that work very well.
I have a Lokar setup on mine and one major advantage is that the switch itself is mounted down at the transmission instead of the carb, making it way less vulnerable. The driver's side of a carb is a very busy place (throttle linkage, engine wire harness, air cleaner hoses...)

I had to sell it. 1980 Turbo Trans Am 1970 Mustang fastback, 351C 4Bbl, auto 1988 Mustang GT, 5 speed 1983 F-150 4x4, built 302 1994 Chevy K2500 HD 4x4, 454 TBI
The OEM kickdown switches were mounted on a bracket on the driver's side of the carb on top of the engine. When the throttle lever opened all the way, the switch would be depressed.
Look at the illustration at the very bottom of this document:

Well that would explain why I dont see any signs that there was mecahnical kickdown linkage in the car....I thnk that switch is in the trans i will look tomorrow...
what the heck is this linkage from Ecklers..there are two rods that also go with it ??...this is what has me confused:
I am far from a 2-speed expert, but I went over all the tranny diagrams and could not see anything like that.
And remember that even if Eckler's says it's a Firebird part - that may be far from fact. I will go through my Ames catalog and see if I can find that.

The only part in the trans is the kickdown solenoid, the switch sits at the carb on the drivers side. you should look for 2 wires, one comes off the wiper motor (for power) to the switch.

RATS!!! I have the solenoid in the trans but no dice on the original manifold switch...nothing there. I suppose I could try and rig up my own micro-switch of some sort....maybe I'll run a WTB ad first and hope I get lucky.
