Here are excepts from the link below on Rochester Quadrajets:
The part number was stamped on a round tag pressed into the driver’s side of the bowl (center section) of all original 1965–1967 quadrajets, as well as some very early production original 1968 quadrajets. The part number will be stamped vertically on the driver’s side of the bowl (center section) in the area of the secondary on later production original 1968 quadrajets; all 1969 - 1974 quadrajets; and service dated replacement 1965 – 1967 quadrajets. The date code may be in a number of areas. Those carburetors that were originally tagged (see above paragraph) will have a 2-character date code stamped into the tag. Most 1968 and some very early production 1969 original carburetors will have a 4-digit date code stamped on the drivers' side of the throttle body (lower casting) just to the front of the rear mounting hole
Based on the above, I would expect the carb on my 1968 400 4 speed car (built Nov 7, 1967) to have the round pressed tag. But every 7028265 carb I have seen does not have the round pressed tag and has the part number on the body and the date code on the base plate. Does this mean that every one I have seen are service dated replacements and not originals? Someone selling me a carb stated that while the carbs where made in 1967, they were for the 1968 model year car, so they should have the number on the body without a round disc as they are referred to as 1968 carbs.
So, does anyone have any insight on what is correct? Anyone have a very early 1968 400 4 speed car with an original 7028265 carb on it? If so, what is yours like?
I have a Nov. -Dec. 67 timeline on my engine components for my 68. I don't think I have seen the round tag on any 68 pics you are talking about, but the memory isn't what it used to be. Maybe 68topless might know that one, he's had a couple 68 4sp. cars.

I don't specifically remember seeing something like that on my 400 'vert. But you took tons of pictures of it. Can you see anything from the picts? It is a second week of Sept '67 build, so similar timeline. I am just swamped at work and homefront so its hard to get pictures of anything these days. Sorry.
I am 98% positive my red 'vert has it's born-with carb. But it is an automatic, not a 4-speed.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not sure. The pictures I have do not show the carb details enough to see for sure, but it looks like the date code is on your base plate and I think it says "24 something. I am guessing it must be about 2407 which would be August 27, 1967.
If that were the case, then it is surprisingly close to your build date and would suggest that the part number is on the body and there is no tag.
Thanks for that picture Pete. I have not seen a 7028265 carb with a round tag like that. Many are saying only the "262" carbs came with the round disc, but no one is willing to bet their life on it.
