I recently (July) bought a well worn out 1968 Pontiac Firebird Sprint. It has the 4 Barrel Carb and what looks to be a 2 Speed Transmission, White Bench Seat Interior, Red On Red (R-R Body Code) (Thats been rattle canned over)

Built In Lordstown

Has Custom Option 275 Parchment Bench Seat with Center fold down armrest

Im trying to find production numbers (i dont care too much, but would be nice to know)

I also want to know why it has a 2 speed in it when they all say they came with 3 speed or 4 speeds...

any one help me out?

its a 2 speed automatic

if it came with a manual transmission it would be a 3 or 4 speed

what production numbers are you trying to find? there are no breakdowns for sprints other than how many had autos versus manuals

My PHS indicates 1850 Sprint automatics were built in 1968. But that would be convertibles and coupes mixed together. And there is an astrex that says "includes Tempest production".

In either case, pretty darn low production number. Almost as rare as 400 HO manual trans cars.

In 1969 the only automatic offered for the Sprint was the 3-speed. See text "Available with 1 BBL 6-cyl or 350 2 bbl only" on the 2-speed automatic here: https://firstgenfirebird.org/firebird/1969/options.html

No interior pics yet, Just working on getting into a new house with a 3 bay wide seperated garage that i can start pulling this car apart, its my first restoration, so i know ill be on here lots, but its a car ive wanted since i was 10 (im 27 Now) i got it for 500$ so im not expecting alot, but it came with no registration (easy to get here in canada with ICBC) and no keys (im going to get a locksmith to cut new keys. trunk lid is dead, bench seats are in impecible shape, but door panels need replacing, lots of surface rust on the rest of the body, but the actual panels are in good shape, little rust in the usual spots, nothing too terribly difficult. Restoring the Beauty to Original Red on Red with the parchment interior, i may change it to white, depends on cost though

parchment is white seats with black carpet and consol and dash

3.55 with manual trans no air

3.23 or 2.78 with automatic

you can find out quick by jacking up one back wheel and seeing it spin while the other wheel is on the ground

Please don't jack the car up on one side, start it up and put it in gear to see it it is a posi unit. If it is a posi rear it may drive right off of the jack into who knows what. So, jack up one side, put it in neutral, rotate the jacked up wheel by hand and if it moves easily it in not a posi rear.

I'm assuming this is what Sprint OHC 6 ment in his post but I thought I would clarify things a little.

Yeah i wasn't actually going to do that, but I will check it once i get the thing on the jack stands.
