I'm having a problem with my 1968 OHC6 Sprint, 3-Speed manual shifter/transmission. I think the transmission is a Saginaw.
I cannot shift the shifter. This has happened before but I've been able to unstick it by spraying WD-40 down the top side of the shifter to free it up, but this time it is stuck. It wiggles a bit but feels like it is stuck in a gear although it looks like it's in neutral.
The clutch pedal has resistance, so I think the clutch is okay. Perhaps my clutch disk is jammed or something?
Does anyone have any recommendations how I can get this freed up?
My hurst shifter used to do this on shifts from 1st to 2nd on occasion. I had to go under the car and push one of the shift rods forward before it would release. It turned out that the inside of the shifter was so gummed up with dirt and gook that sometimes both shift rods would move at the same time when only one was supposed to. Of course the fix was to take the shifter completely apart and clean and relube it. No problem since.
