I just replaced the "nss" on my 69 350/auto 2bbl 'bird. Its a floor shift car with the "nss" on the column ( I found that a bit odd but apparently it wasn't unusual in 69). Now either the car wont start, or starts in ALL gears based on the nss adjustment... and the same with the back up lights... either they're always on or always off. My guess is there must be something wrong with the linkage to the tranny. Anyone else experienced this quandary?

Not sure what exactly but most times it's a bad ground. Make sure everything grounded well.

if it starts in all gears , often the linkeage is missing...have you checked that its there? otherwise maybe an adjustment?

I've got 2 69 goats with that setup. There is linkage between the shift lever on the trans and the column. It is adjustable.

thanks for the tips guys. turns out the linkage had been removed due to a stuck steering column spring. was able to massage the spring a bit and connect a new linkage rod. works like new!
