I have a line on a 67 camaro 10 bolt posi. Will it bolt right in to my 67 bird? What if any changes will I have to make? Springs, shocks etc. Thanks Jimbo
The Chevy rear end is weaker than the original rear end from your car, the best choice for a replacement rear end is an 8.5 out of a 2nd gen Firebird/Camaro. They are more plentiful, much stronger, and parts are more readily available & cheaper. You would have to shorten your driveshaft approx. 1". Also would need to use your old spring perches on the 8.5 to fit properly.
would the nova's multileaf perches work with mono leafs? i know the positioning should be right, but i thought the multi leaf perches were deeper and so required a spacer or swap to multis... I dont know since i've never paid much attention to the monoleaf.. just thinking of something i read.
But you would have to change the springs to a mult-leaf, and your shocks are not staggered like the '68 and up, so you'd need to retain the radius rod, or you'll get nasty wheel hop when you open that thing up ..... What gear ratio is in the Camaro diff? Are you after a lower gear, or just the posi, or both? A posi only helps to cut down on wheelspin, so if you're not having trouble at the moment, I wouldn't go to all the trouble of swapping. If you're after a different gear, you may still want to keep the Pontiac diff. It has a feature that Camaro owners sometimes buy kits to convert their Chevy diffs to, that of retaining the axles with a plate instead of C-clips. Call me and I'll fill you in! (Scott beat me again!)
Thanks for all the info. The rear for sale is a 308, mine is a 256. I also have a 68 camaro rear non posi 273 gear. Would that be better? I'll call you brent thanks. Jimbo
