I see for sale a repop bird emblem for the glove box door but my 69 doesn't have holes in the door for the screws. Should I leave it as is or get the emblem and try to find where to drill the holes?
Your personal preference. So far, I have seen no correlation with anything (date, option, feature, model, factory, etc.) that indicated whether a 1st gen got a glove box bird or not.
my 69 did not have it , but I added it ...and its not screws, the emblem has stud on the back, two different sizes....I drilled only one hole , filed off one stud , inserted the stud in one hole (after getting dimensions from others here) and added a dab of silicone to hold it in place
That was Merv answering your question. Not asking the same question. He kind of flies with his own jet stream...

No, there has been no evidence to support one way or the other how or why which Firebirds received the 68 Bird Glass (which again, is not an etching process but they were printed on the inside of the glass) nor has there been any way to determine which cars received the Glove box door Bird on 67's & 68's?
I know a few have collected build sheet data, PHS documentation and any other type of information in hopes of determining an appearance group, a trim package or some type of option package that may have correlated with the addition of either the Bird Glass or a few other options such as this, but there is nothing to support this nor does it seem to be called out anyplace...
So yes, that IS the only answer at this point that we know of.
I am pretty sure they had special days at the factory where management decreed "all Firebird's today will receive glove box emblems" and later in '68 "all cars today will receive Bird Glass".
