Be careful what you buy, there is a cap they say is a 67-69, but it has dimples on it and it won't fit, I found out there is a difference between them as I bought it and now it's in a parts bin, I believe they are Camaro fuel caps and they don't fit, 67 and I believe 68 use the round one with no dimples sticking out.
I have to bump this, because I'm so confused. I have a vented gas cap on my '68. The previous owner did replace the gas tank. Did '68's have vented gas caps?
Yes, '68 had vented caps. If yours is vented, it could be original. Post some pictures of it if you are still not sure.

All the 67-68's had vented caps, both years used the same tank configuration with a tank and a filler tube and joined by a neoprene hose. I'm not sure if the 69's did too. I was looking to replace mine fuel cap, but all I seem to find is the ones with a dimples on them and they are vented. As I said earlier they are Camaro caps and they won't fit. If anyone knows where we can get a vented cap from it would be helpful.
I bought the same vented cap with ears as Ragu, but was able to easily modify it to fit. It won't win any awards but it doesn't look that bad and it works! I just couldn't find a reproduction and originals are impossible to find. I was also worried an original would get stolen, so I didn't want to have to take it off and take it into the store with me!
I was reading some older threads on this site where someone drilled holes in their caps so it would breath both ways. I think somone said their sending unit blew out of the tank because it got hot in the garage and the pressure built up. So when I had the fuel filler neck out of the car I put my modified cap on the filler neck and blew hard on the other side. It let pressure out from the cap when I blew hard enough, so I didn't see any reason to drill holes in my setup. I'll snap a photo of it later.
It's a tight fit in there, so there ears have to be modified. I just took a band saw and ran it around the perimeter about 3/4 into the ear and stopped. Then I drilled one hole in the center of the ear. From there I just got some needle nose pliers and gently pulled it flat. It wasn't ideal, but it works great and I didn't have a choice.
