Just got my first Firebird this weekend - a '68 Firebird 400 (currently with BBC engine), 4 sp, etc. Was looking for the build sheet and trying to get the back seat out so I could look underneath. Wasn't coming out. Tried to pull the top of the seat back and felt a lever - pulled on the lever and the seat folded down. Guess it's a good news, bad news thing - couldn't find the build sheet, but did find an option that I didn't realize that I had. Curious to know - is this a rare option?
this is a rare option, but your build sheet should still be there...somewhere...maybe? Guess you`ll have to find out how the seat bottom comes out of a folding seat car...I for one dont know...but I can try to find out... or...did you get the seat out?
No, I didn't get it out yet and won't have time to give it another shot until this weekend. If anyone has any tips, please let me know. Have ordered PHS documentation, so should have more details when it arrives.
If I recall correctly, it comes out the same way as standard seats. One problem is that it can take a real gorilla monsoon to get the seat to unclip. Because I'm not a gorilla monsoon, I often have to remove the seat by folding/sliding the front seats forward. Next, I weasel myself in a postion so that I can apply pressure to the lower seat with one foot, then kick the seat with the other foot.

I found a build sheet under the rear seat. I had the seat out a few times over the years and didn't see it. After reading that it could be there, I removed the seat and found it tucked up under the springs and behind the cardboard sound deadener.
I dread removing that rear seat. A couple times I used towels to protect the front and rear seats then put plywood and 2x4 pieces in place and a 2x4 lever to push the seat back and out of the floor brackets.
this was a response from the list: </font><blockquote><font size="1" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">quote:</font><hr /><font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif"> The bottom of a fold down rear seat is the same as the bottom of a regular seat,so same removal process. </font><hr /></blockquote><font size="2" face="Verdana, Helvetica, sans-serif">hope that helps...
Well, the good news is that I was able to pull the bottom seat out. Was pretty easy once I pulled the carpet out of the way; was able to manipulate it some then.
Bad news - no build sheet.
Oh, well, I guess I'll have to wait for a few days until my PHS documentation arrives.
