I was wondering if you guys could give me some feedback on this tranny for sale. I have a powerglide transmission that sometimes slips and I'm considering replacing it with a 3 speed transmission. My differential is stock (dont know the exact specs)and I do not intend to replace it. My goal is just to have a daily driver. Any feedback is very much appreciated.
If that was a 2004R tranny, it is a 4 speed tranny, not 3 speed! I have one in my FB, but I put it in because I have 3:73 rearend gears so it makes highways speeds more bearable. It's gearing is different and gave me more grunt from a start and at highway speeds (roughly 60) I run about 2100 RPMs, which is 1000 RPMs lower then then when I had my TH400 3 speed in the car.

X 2 on this...put a 200-4R several years ago, with my 4.10 posi, can cruise 65 mph @ 2500 rpm, nice 1st gear.
Thanks for the feed back. I think 2004R is the way to go for me. I live in Southern California and I use the freeway a lot. I would like to relieve the engine some stress during high speed cruising by lowering the RPM. Well, since the posting is gone, I guess I'll have to wait for another chance. I am in no rush. There are other things for me to do with my 68 bird. I am fixing to install headers. Thanks to you all.
I like the idea of a 200R4 trans. For you guys running them, how is the shifter set up? Can you manually go through the gears with a stock 68 shifter?
I have a 69 with a console shifter and yes I can, if you have a console shifter it looks like you can, but you have to go to SHIFTWORKS and scroll half way down the page and get the shifter conversion kit for your bird. The main thing is the detent that allows you to use all the gears. It is pretty simple and straight forward to install. I think it took me all of about an hour to remove my shifter and remove and install the detent on the shifter to make it work.

Might want to find out what your rearend gears are before putting a 2004R in, because I have read that someone with like 2:78 gears might have a problem with the RPM's being to low once in fourth gear and causing the engine to lug. Not sure if that is true or not, just letting you know what I have read on it.
