Just in the process of doing the steering box and a new brake booster (because removing one helps access to the other!)
Looks like the "input " shaft is a smaller diameter than the old slush box....going down to Lordco or Napa tomorrow to get a new rag joint ....any idea of the diameter I am after? hate to lug that box around! Have the Lee inserts in so all else is good...and looking forward to the steering improvement in time for the fair weather...
Dave, I'm not sure what box you have but when I swapped mine over to the metric box I had to also source a mid 70s GMC truck rag joint to fit the new shaft. One of them was 3/4", not sure if it was the orig or the new one though.
its the Cardone 276550. I believe 3/4 would be the original and the new one is about an 1/8" smaller.
That's the same cast iron color I used on my original, so I will go with it again....I likely researched it at the time, but unfortunately my memory is great, but its a bit short..
LOL, now that I'm in there the LBMs need a new coat of POR manifold paint (which I have to order as my can went funky) so may be a one week swap! Oh and I have the heat riser pipe that has spent the last year on the wall....may as well put it on too!
May as well just pull the engine out and freshen it up while you detail the bay and have the tranny rebuilt. :^) Tread carefully my friend. Deep waters lurk ahead.
I know Bob it scares the hell out of me.... I was looking again last nite and said to self...hmmm I can now get at those bumper mounts easier, maybe I should try and get that last 1/8" I would like to snug in on that side, and yes I was looking at the bay too, although pretty nice, the black is starting to loose its "sheen"...yiiikes!
