Not knowing the correct terminology, My left back side window on my -68 vert has a broken "roller" (okay - it's like a wheel thingie hee hee). I have a replacement, but I can't seem to figure out how to disassemble the window to get at it. What am I overlooking?
Steven If you do not have a service manual. The best way to get the window out to repair it is to take rear seat out and the arm rest for that side. Their is a cover you have to remove to get to the bolts. You will end up removing the whole asembly in pieces. Make shure you mark the position of the bolts, or you will change the way the window rolls up.
Unbolt the crank mechanism and remove it.. It just gets in the way... Once the 4 bolts are removed, twist it so that it simply slides out of a small channel on the window and then pulls out of the large hole in the sheet metal. (You may need to push the window up to facilitate this..
The rear window itself has 3 rollers.. The center one rides within a contained channel (metal on both sides), while the outer ones each ride along the single edge of two outer channels... Position the window at a point where the outer channels are closest together (they curve in a bit towards one another), and then lightly (!) pry one of the rollers off the channel towards the exterior of the car.. One roller is spring loaded in order to permit you to push the two rollers apart. It will pop off the channel. Then the other outside roller will come off the other channel, as it is no longer held against its channel by the opposing roller. Once the outer rollers are loose, lift up on the window to allow the center roller to pull out of the contained channel at the channel's top.
Confused yet? If you look at it, you'll see what I mean. The key is the spring loaded outside roller that allows the two rollers to be separated from one another and removed from the channel edges..and also the center roller that only exists its channel at the very top.
