Since the wiring in these cars are nearly non existent, i would like to install a single din deck and would like to know how to wire it up. Would this connect directly to the fuse block? I am looking at something like this:
Check those two top spades to see if they are switched or constant power. The factory radio will have a switch power connection for you. The modern radio will need a constant power source too for memory.
I would look into a glove box mounting kit if you have not already. cutting up the dash just kills resale value.
I would look for a radio delete plate for the trim or just leave the stock radio in place. Now one will try and steel your radio if they see the old crappy AM radio.
I have no radio in place at the moment. Does the radio in the glove box get hot? If I get the radio delete plate, that that consist of the whole bezel to.
They also make modern radios to fit properly in the dash. One is a little pricy at $600 but looks just like the original radio. Some others are less expensive but don't look exactly original. Check out Ames Performance or other catalog places. just a thought in case you hadn't considered.
Thanks for the input. Still looking at options since I dont have a radio at all in place, just the cutouts are there, I was thinking about something like this:
