I'm trying to check my timing, but cannot see the timing mark. The HB is clean nor gunked up paint. I would think I could easily see the mark. Does anyone have a picture of this mark? My engine is a 68 Sprint.
I haven't done this in years. Vacuum is disconnected and the light is hooked to the#1 plug. The engine runs very well. That mark should be plainly visible.
Sometimes it is very hard to see the notch especially if the light is weak. Have you tried using a white crayon or piece of chalk to assist. It will get you close and then you can use the actual notch to pull it in.
Thanks guys. I was able to find a picture. I then kept bumping the starter and finally found the marks. I then marked them with chalk. My timing was a ways out of whack. It's as it should be now and the engine runs noticeably better.
I took a toothpick and filled the timing mark with gloss white paint. Very easy to see and permanent.
