Car is painted, just a few details to iron out, one the ride. The front springs that are on the car are the ones that came with it, but don't like the way it looks, as it sits, there is 5" between tire & top. I know you can cut certain types of springs, so 1. Can I cut these, or 2. Recommended springs for this car? Kel
Kelly , remember mine? I cut one coil off the old existing springs....lowered it. I know its a 69 vs 68 , but effect would be the same....and save the money for a lowering set up....
When you cut them make sure the cut end will fit into the proper place in the spring pocket. Also, the manufacturers tell you not to use a torch to cut them. Better to use a saw of some sort so you lessen the effect on the strength of the steel.
I bought the front coils and rear leafs from them many years ago. Did a 2" drop in front and a 1" drop in back. You just give them the engine, options, etc for the front end (so they have a weight estimate). Car sits amazing now.
Everybody has a different opinion what stance their car should have. Some like it low. Some like it higher in back. Heck some like it to look like a sky scraper(idiotic-my opinion). Just sayin everybod's different. Think I started a thread a couple of years ago trying to get everybody that had installed new springs to post a pic of the stance and list what type of springs they used so you could get an actual visual of what it would look like. Not sure too many did. Would've been nice to save it in the archives or something.
The springs listed for my 6cy bird put it almost to the top of the suspension's travel... way too high for me. I cut off two coils for a very low and stiff ride. When I got tired of that I got some springs listed for a 4dr 6cy (69-74) Nova and now it sits where I think it ought.
Ended up using my 4 1/2" grinder with cutting wheel, cut 1 full coil, went thru it like butter. Could not be happier with results. Will post before/after pics tomorrow, thanx for all the replies, Kel
