I just got of the phone with American modern Insurance Group and whoever researches the Vin is not decoding the VIN correctly. Been going round and round which they are saying my car is modified because according to "VINWiz.com" my car shows the series ( 2 and 3rd number of the Vin) as a Firebird L6. The website is coded to provide vins info 65-71. So I tell them under the decoded vin chart is states: 65-71 Pontiac: Serial # starting with 1,2,5 are V8 65-71 Pontiac: Serial # starting with 6,7,8 are L6
I tell them whoever coded the VINWIZ website did it incorrectly. I was getting pretty hot under the collar need less to say. She finally pushed it through but why would a insurance depend on a website as verification when it could have a mistake.
Does seem stupid. If they are fighting that now, just think what they might argue about after an incident.
I'd consider a different insurer. I use Hagerty. There are others out there too.
I used to be indecisive. Now I'm not sure. I had heard good things from American modern Insurance Group and no issues with claims from users which was a reason to look into them. Just this underwriter that is decoding VIN's. I just don't se how they could use a website that John Dow threw up. No information on the web site to contact an owner either, which I had planned to do to let them know there is an issue.
I guess any 68 vin with 23 as the 2nd and 3 rd digit is a L6 firebird. LOL according to vinwiz.com
I had thought about using Hagerty but found out they were 100% higher. I just hate to pay extra for advertising dollars that are spent.

I am paying around $325 per year for $35,000 coverage, free towing.
So American is under $200 for the same thing? (just comparing apples)

I just called my State Farm agent and said need to insure a 68FB. He asked for how much. Said $10K. He said fine, just bring it by some time for a "walk around". After see'n it said better make it at least $15K. Cost ya $125 for full coverage every 6 mo's. Just don't drive back/forth to work, and keep miles under 5k a year.

Here is the deal.
American Auto with 50000 insurance with 24x 7 road side assistance with $200 per occurrence Guaranteed flatbed towing 250 deductible on other then collision and collision $289 Hagerty with 50000 insurance with their premium towing which coverers 50 mile towing and 100 towards road side assistance Hagerty does not have a 250 deductible lowest is 1000 deductible - $420 0 deductible $459
Both quotes have the same liability and policy level coverage's Both agreed value of 50,000.
Yes I finally got the agent to see that but never could talk to the underwriter or whoever reviews the application. They went ahead and sent it through as unmodified after about 20 minutes of back and forth. She had me go to the site so I can see for myself that it was a 6 cyl. That's when I pointed out the to bottom * that identified the 1 as a V8. She agreed with me then. I don't think the reviewer ever did though.
Harold is there anywhere in the policy that states when and where you can drive it? I have heard that a lot of companies don't let you drive to work and such...

No they have a broad usage allowance and you can choose the annual mileage plan that best fits how you use your car -- 1,000, 3,000, 6,000 or unlimited. My quote was based on 1000 miles but for 3000 miles it was 10 dollars more. I told her I could raise it if I go over 1000.
I have American Modern too, which used to be called Blueprint years ago. I've been with them for the past 15 years. No claims, but have always heard good things about them. I dumped my State Farm policy a long time ago due to no "agreed value" provision. State Farm screwed me years earlier on my 65 GTO, but I digress...
My policy is $236.00 a year, agreed is over $30K. With that comes $300K bodily, $300K uninsured, $300K underinsured.
Free stuff includes: $75 free towing per occurrence $2,000 spare parts coverage per occurence $150 day trip interrruption, $600 per occurence $750 pet coverage 2% inflation guard - in the event of a toal loss, it's the Agreed Value plus 2% per quarter throughout policy term
Restrictions: Vehicle must be kept in a locked garage. Can't be used as primary means of transportation (can't take it work, school, etc). Can be used for parades, shows, and occasional leisure/pleasure drives, which is the biggest plus.
I have 1000 miles/year limitation (I used to have a 3,000 miles/yr limitation, but never drove more than about 700 miles a year. I think that dropped the premium about $15 a year).
I have Hagerty and have had 2 claims and did not pay a deductible on either and they were very easy to work with. Both if I remember right were damage that was caused by me which actually included former slight damage that I caused but waited to claim them until I had a claim that I felt was big enough. I pay no attention to the mileage restrictions they never ask a starting or ending mileage so how are they gonna know ! I would be a little skeptical about insuring "my classic car" with someone who can't decipher as vin. What if you have a claim ? Also remember you get what you pay for and seeing the amount of work you have into your car I would be real leary about who I insure it with. Saving $100.00 may not be worth it if/when you ever need to use the ins.
RW, dump State Farm before something happens. They WILL screw you no matter how much they smile and tell you all about how you're covered. That "how much is it worth" don't mean jack when they total your car. They go right to the funny pages and say look here I can replace that car for $2000. That's all we can give you for it. That's exactly what they did to me.
I had Haggerty for a few years. After adding the Vette last year the premium was just over $850 for the bird insured for 25k and the vette insured for 18k. Seemed kind of high to me so I called Grundy. Same exact coverage for around $500 for both. I had to change although I will say that Haggerty is easier to deal with. Very nice people there.
Grundy says something like you can't drive to work regularly. I have vintage plates on both cars so according to the state of Michigan I am not supposed to use them for "regular" driving.
