I need to pick a cam for my Poncho. Needs to have decent street manners, and a really nice muscle car choppy idle. It doesn't get driven except for cruising around. Never a daily driven car.
68 Firebird 350 with 72cc #17 heads (9:1 compression) Performer RPM intake 1.52 roller tip rockers Dougs longtubes, X-pipe and Flowmasters Tremec 5 speed (low 3.27 first gear, and high .68 overdrive 5th gear) The rear end gear ratio is 3.42. So with this combo it ends up being like a Muncie M21/22 (which came with 2.20 first gear) combined with a 5.13 rear gear -- OR -- a Muncie M20 (which came with a 2.52 first gear) combined with a 4.56 rear gear. So I have plenty of "gear".
I run this in my 68 350 and like it: http://www.summitracing.com/nv/parts/sum-2801. I also have the #17 heads, Performer intake, 1.52 roller rockers, and Hedman shorty headers (for ground clearance) and full Flowmaster exhaust with H-Pipe. Bowtie Overdrives level three 200-4r tranny with 2400 stall, 8.5" 4.10 posi rear (2200 rpm at 70 mph...not bad).
Old thread from "back in the day" (and before I put in the 8.5" 4.10 posi rear):
